The airline’s first flight from Ho Chi Minh City arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo on Tuesday, marking the official launch of the new route.
The Colombo-Ho Chi Minh City air service operates three round-trip flights a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Flights depart Tan Son Nhat International Airport at 6:15 pm and arrive in Colombo at 9:50 pm local time.
The return flights leave Colombo at 11:00 pm and land in Ho Chi Minh City at 5:55 am the following day.
The new route is expected to facilitate travel between Vietnam and Sri Lanka while supporting tourism, trade and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Colombo, Sri Lanka’s commercial capital, is a gateway to the country’s tropical beaches, tea-growing hills, historic heritage sites and diverse natural landscapes.
Ho Chi Minh City, meanwhile, is Vietnam’s major economic and tourism hub and a key gateway to destinations across the country.
Vietjet said the new service will also allow passengers to connect more conveniently with its broader flight network across the Asia-Pacific region, Australia and other destinations.
The launch comes as direct air connectivity between Vietnam and South Asia expands, giving travelers more options to visit Sri Lanka without having to make a transit stop.
