Vietnam Air Force conducts over-sea rescue training in Rach Gia

Vietnam’s 917th Air Regiment under the 370th Air Division conducted two days of over-sea rescue training off Rach Gia in the southern province of An Giang on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Ministry of National Defense said.

The drills were aimed at improving pilots’ proficiency in helicopter hovering and sea-rescue operations, as well as assessing the unit’s combat readiness and command coordination.

Twelve flight crews took off from Can Tho Airport and practiced hovering rescues using Mi-171 helicopters, including live rescue lifts from the sea and simulated missions, all following standard safety protocols.

The regiment coordinated with Border Guard Fleet 28 and civil aviation authorities at Rach Gia and Can Tho airports to ensure flight safety during the training.

The exercise helped strengthen the unit’s rescue capability and flight discipline, the ministry said.
