Passengers can now access the Internet throughout their journey, with services including messaging, photo sharing, web browsing, and emailing.
The in-flight Internet infrastructure was deployed in partnership with state-run telecom group VNPT, connecting to the U.S.-based Viasat satellite, allowing passengers to access the Internet during flights with stable speeds and strong security.
About five months ago, the airline began testing in-flight Internet on international routes and some domestic flights operated with Airbus A350 aircraft.
More than 70,000 passengers have experienced the service during flights.
Vietnam Airlines offers several data packages to suit different passenger needs, including a US$5 messaging package for unlimited in-flight messages, a $10 package for one hour of web browsing, and a $20 unlimited package covering the entire flight.
These packages are available on all of its international flights.
From now until March 31, the airline will also provide free Internet access for business-class passengers and 15 minutes of free messaging for all passengers.
For domestic flights, the service will be rolled out once payment methods are standardized in Vietnam.
Eight Airbus A350 aircraft are equipped with in-flight Internet connectivity, with plans to install the system across the entire A350 fleet within 2026.
Other aircraft, including the Boeing 787 and Airbus A321, will also be fitted with satellite Internet systems shortly thereafter.
Vietnam Airlines deputy general director Dang Anh Tuan emphasized that providing continuous connectivity for passengers is not only an essential requirement in modern aviation, but also reflects the airline’s commitment to implementing the Politburo’s Resolution 57 on promoting science, technology, and innovation.
Accelerating digitalization in Vietnam’s aviation sector
With growth of roughly 21 percent, Vietnam has been ranked by UN Tourism among the world's fastest-growing tourism markets.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam aims to serve 95 million passengers and transport 1.6 million metric tons of cargo in 2026, representing respective increases of 13 percent and 15 percent year on year.
To achieve these targets, the aviation industry is enhancing management, refining policies, sustaining market growth, and supporting airlines in stabilizing operations and improving operational capacity, while accelerating the adoption of digital technologies and promoting digital transformation.
