Vietnam Airlines plane lands safely in Hanoi despite burst tire

A Hanoi-bound Vietnam Airlines flight managed to land safety on Friday, despite suffering a burst tire on one of its landing gear wheels.

The Airbus A321 burst a tire on takeoff from the Da Nang International Airport at 8:30 am, carrying 162 passengers, according to the national flag carrier.

The incident was detected 30 minutes into the flight, and the pilot team of the Vietnam Airlines flight VN 162 had immediately reported to Minister of Transport Dinh La Thang and the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV).

Upon being briefed of the situation, the CAAV activated the emergency protocol at the Hanoi airport.

But the authority was later informed that the incident was not so serious, because all of the remaining tires were in normal conditions, CAAV head Lai Xuan Thanh told reporters later the same day.

The plane eventually landed safely at 10:42 am with no reports of injuries.

The damaged tire was later found with a 10-cm cut on the surface.

Earlier on January 3, a Vietnam Airlines’ Airbus A350 plane also suffered a technical problem in Paris, prior to takeoff for a return flight to Hanoi.
