On Saturday, the Quang Tri Border Guard Command said it had arrested Nguyen Duy Khanh, 46, a resident of Truong Son Commune, Quang Tri Province, for allegedly illegally transporting explosives.
The arrest was made as part of the second phase of a special investigation.
The explosives were allegedly smuggled from Laos into Vietnam through the border area of Truong Son Commune.
At about 12:20 am on Friday, a specialized unit, working with the Lang Mo and Nhat Le border guard stations, arrested Khanh in the border area of Truong Son Commune.
Authorities seized two bags containing a total of 68 kilograms of explosive materials at the scene.
During questioning, Khanh handed over two additional bags containing 67 kilograms of explosives, six homemade mines weighing 1 kilogram in total, two cylindrical explosive charges weighing 0.3 kilogram, and seven detonators.
On July 23, during the first phase of the operation, authorities arrested Ho Van Ngoc Truong, a resident of Khe Sanh Commune, for allegedly illegally transporting explosive materials and seized 74 kilograms of explosives.
At the conclusion of the operation, authorities arrested two suspects and seized more than 210 kilograms of explosives and other explosive materials.
