The milestone took place during a series of engagements under the 10th Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchange and the 40th joint patrol between the two countries’ navies.
On Monday, the frigates 015-Tran Hung Dao and 012-Ly Thai To carrying a Vietnam People’s Navy delegation arrived at Fangcheng Port in China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to begin official activities under the 10th exchange.
The visit marked part of broader cooperation efforts, including joint patrols and training exercises in the Gulf of Tonkin.

Captain Hanfeng, deputy chief of staff of Guangzhou Base of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy, welcomed the Vietnamese delegation.
Captain Do Minh, second-in-command of Naval Region 4 and head of the delegation, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and confidence that the joint patrol and training would strengthen mutual trust and cooperation.
Commanders from both sides said that the joint patrol mechanism has helped maintain security and order in the Gulf of Tonkin, improved responses to non-traditional security challenges, and deepened mutual understanding.

This year’s program also introduced new elements.
Notably, both defense ministers attended the port ceremony, listened to reports from commanders, and gave instructions before departure.
Activities included ship visits, joint planning meetings, and cross-deck exchanges where officers and sailors observed each other’s operations.
The joint patrol and training in the Gulf of Tonkin covered formation maneuvers, maritime escort, light signal handling at sea, anti-piracy drills, search-and-rescue cooperation, and maritime safety.
