He made the remarks at a ceremony in the city marking the 108th anniversary of the Czech Republic’s National Day (October 28).
The event was hosted by Czech Ambassador to Vietnam Lukáš Kaucký and attended by representatives of diplomatic and consular missions, business communities, and people from both countries.
7 decades of nurturing Vietnam-Czech friendship
Addressing the ceremony, the city’s top official said that although Vietnam and the Czech Republic are located on different continents, the two countries have long been bound by a warm and genuine friendship.
Seventy-six years ago, Czechoslovakia was among the first countries in the world to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.
Czechoslovakia also provided valuable support to the Vietnamese people in their struggle for national liberation and reunification, he noted.
For generations of Vietnamese people, the former Czechoslovakia and the present-day Czech Republic have been associated with cherished memories of friendship and solidarity forged through years of studying, working, and living together.

He said that the traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic continues to flourish on the foundation of the two countries’ strategic partnership.
People-to-people exchanges and cooperation between organizations and localities on both sides, particularly the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, have played an important role in sustaining these ties.
As Ho Chi Minh City enters a new phase of development, with expanded development space and growing potential, the city hopes to welcome more delegations from Czech government agencies, ministries, local authorities, businesses, and social organizations to strengthen exchanges and explore cooperation opportunities, he said.
The municipal administration stands ready to support and facilitate initiatives that can be translated into concrete projects and programs, delivering practical benefits to people and businesses in both countries.
He expressed confidence that, with a strong foundation of traditional friendship built over generations and the goodwill and determination of both sides, relations between Ho Chi Minh City and its Czech partners would continue to deepen, contributing to the Vietnam-Czech strategic partnership.

New Hanoi-Prague air route brings two countries closer
Czech Ambassador Kaucký affirmed that relations between the Czech Republic and Vietnam hold an important place in the Czech Republic’s modern history, dating back to the early 1950s.
This year marks the 76th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, reflecting a long history of fruitful and friendly cooperation.
The mutually beneficial relationship has gained further momentum with the establishment of a strategic partnership last year, according to the ambassador.
A particularly significant development was the launch of the first direct air service between Hanoi and Prague two weeks ago.

The new air link is expected to provide a stronger foundation for closer bilateral ties and facilitate further exchanges, paving the way for a planned visit to Vietnam by Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš in December.
Kaucký also highlighted the key role of the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic, which is among the country’s largest minority communities.
This year also marks the 70th anniversary of the arrival in the Czech Republic of the first 100 Vietnamese children.
Their arrival laid the groundwork for subsequent generations of Vietnamese people to settle in the country over the following decades.
The ambassador said the Vietnamese community had helped make relations between the two countries distinctive and special.
Kaucký expressed pride in the contributions of the two peoples to nurturing and advancing the long-standing friendship between the Czech Republic and Vietnam.
