Vietnam deploys citizen protection measures for national on Gaza-bound vessel detained by Israel

The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel said on Wednesday that it is implementing citizen protection measures for Tieu Nguyen Bao Ngoc, a Vietnamese national who was detained by Israel while participating in a flotilla organized by the Global Sumud Flotilla heading toward the Gaza Strip.

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, the Consular Department under Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with Vietnamese representative missions in Israel, Egypt, and Turkey, as well as relevant domestic authorities, to verify the case.

The agencies have also actively contacted and exchanged information with Ngoc's family to facilitate verification procedures and citizen protection efforts.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel has contacted Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to request verification of information related to the incident and called for humane treatment, as well as full compliance with international regulations and conventions related to citizen protection and human rights.

A representative of the embassy said it is continuing to closely coordinate with local authorities and monitor the situation in order to provide necessary support measures for the Vietnamese citizen involved.

Amid the increasingly complicated security situation in the Middle East, the Vietnamese Embassy in Israel advised Vietnamese citizens to strictly comply with the regulations of countries in the region, regularly follow security warnings issued by local authorities and Vietnamese representative agencies, and limit travel to conflict-affected or unsafe areas.

The embassy said it will continue to update information and implement necessary citizen protection measures in accordance with Vietnamese law and international practice.

According to the Global Sumud Flotilla, 38 vessels from a convoy of 54 ships that departed Turkey last week for the Gaza Strip were reportedly surrounded by Israeli forces about 250 nautical miles off the Gaza coast on Monday.

The vessels were carrying 319 people from dozens of countries, including Australia, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and Indonesia.

The group said its aim was to deliver food, drinking water, and medicine to residents in Gaza.

According to The Guardian, video footage showed Israeli forces approaching the vessels by speedboat before boarding them.

Gaza is a narrow coastal territory along the Mediterranean Sea in the Middle East and has been a focal point of conflict for decades.
