Police officers have arrested a 31-year-old Vietnamese-French man after catching him purportedly using a bogus credit card to steal money in south-central Vietnam.

Police in Ninh Thuan Province said on Sunday that they detained Nguyen Nicolas, 31, of French nationality, on Saturday evening after he ran about 100 meters from an ATM booth of a branch of the Bank of Investment and Development of Vietnam in the province.
He fled upon being asked by a bank staffer to show his Visa card he had used in the machine for examination.
The staffer had earlier been assigned to monitor that machine, with the aid of police officers, after the bank found a fake Visa card used in one of its ATM booths.
Nguyen Nicolas arrived in Vietnam through Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on February 11.
Visa cards, as international credit plastic, can be used to withdraw cash from any ATM globally, the bank said.
Police are investigating the case, saying that the fake Visa card used by Nguyen Nicolas had likely been forged by himself or someone else by utilizing the stolen personal data of the true owner of the card.
Many similar cases have been detected in different locations in Vietnam recently.
On November 17, 2014, police in Ho Chi Minh City arrested Ivan Slabob Rusev, a 37-year-old Bulgarian man, for using ATM cards, brought from Bulgaria into Vietnam, to steal money from ATMs.
Rusev was arrested by police in District 1 after he was caught using a fake ATM card to withdraw money from an ATM booth.
On searching the foreigner and his motorbike, police found and seized 39 other false ATM cards and VND81 million (US$3,800) in cash.
