The Vinh Long Market Surveillance Department said the penalties were imposed following inspections that found the firms involved in the manufacturing, display, and sale of imitation Chanel-branded gold jewelry.
Inspectors said they discovered three sets of gold bangles with incomplete labeling during a check of private business K.T.T. in Nhuan Phu Tan Commune, with a total value of more than VND147 million ($5,595), including one set valued at over VND60 million ($2,284) that showed signs of trademark infringement.
Further investigation found the products had been commissioned by K.T.T. and manufactured by another private firm, K.H.H., located in the same province, the agency said.
Authorities fined K.H.H. VND108 million ($4,111) for producing counterfeit Chanel-branded jewelry, while K.T.T. was fined more than VND225 million ($8,565) for ordering the production, displaying, and selling of counterfeit products and for violations related to mandatory labeling requirements.
Total fines imposed on the two firms exceeded VND333 million, the market surveillance department said.
