Vietnam football team receive nearly $1.2mn in bonuses after ASEAN Cup triumph

Vietnam drew 2-2 against Thailand in the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi on Wednesday night, securing a 4-2 aggregate victory.

The triumph marked Vietnam’s second consecutive ASEAN Cup title and fourth overall, following championships in 2008, 2018, and 2024.

The team earned $300,000 in prize money from the ASEAN Football Federation.

The Vietnam Football Federation also awarded head coach Kim Sang Sik and his players VND4 billion ($153,000) immediately after the final, while a bank pledged another VND2 billion ($76,600).

Earlier in the tournament, the team had received VND12.3 billion ($471,000) in bonuses from the VFF, businessman Nguyen Duc Thuy from Sacombank, and sponsor Acecook Vietnam following their unbeaten group-stage campaign, two 2-0 semifinal wins over Malaysia, and a 2-0 victory over Thailand in the first leg of the final in Bangkok.

The Vietnamese players and coaching staff are also entitled to state rewards under Decree 349/2025.

Each athlete winning a Southeast Asian championship is eligible for VND40 million ($1,530), meaning the 25-player squad will receive a combined VND1 billion ($38,300).

The coaching staff will receive a reward fund equivalent to five athlete bonuses, or VND200 million ($7,660), under regulations for teams with more than 15 athletes.

The total rewards for Vietnam have therefore reached nearly VND30 billion ($1.15 million) and could rise further as more businesses, organizations, and individuals announce bonuses.

After winning the ASEAN Cup 2024, Vietnam received nearly VND23 billion ($881,000) in bonuses from sponsors and benefactors.
