Vietnam gas station catches fire as customer throws burning cigarette end

A petrol station in Quy Nhon City of Binh Dinh Province in south-central Vietnam burst into flames after a customer carelessly threw his burning cigarette butt on the ground on Friday morning, the local fire fighting force reported.

The fire broke out at about 8:00 am after a man drove a motorbike while smoking to the station, located on Tran Hung Dao Street in Quy Nhon, to fill up the vehicle’s tank, the Binh Dinh Fire Fighting and Prevention Police Department said.

The men kept on smoking during the gas filling and then threw the burning cigarette end on the ground, leading to the petrol station catching fire and going up in flames.

“I heard a loud explosion, then the fire broke out. Everyone panicked as the fire was so powerful,” Nguyen Thi Mai, a local woman, said.

Firefighters were called to the scene immediately to stamp out the blaze.

The incident caused no casualties but burned three petrol columns and the man’s motorbike, the gas station reported.
