Vietnam issues safety advisory for citizens amid Thailand-Cambodia border tensions

The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Consular Department on Friday issued a safety advisory for Vietnamese citizens following recent tensions along the Thailand-Cambodia border.

All Vietnamese nationals in affected areas are urged to closely follow and strictly comply with local authorities’ regulations and guidance, especially by avoiding areas with unstable security conditions.

Citizens should maintain close contact with Vietnam’s diplomatic missions in Thailand and Cambodia.

Speaking at a press conference in Hanoi on Thursday, the foreign ministry’s spokesperson Pham Thu Hang expressed Vietnam’s deep concern over the escalating tensions at the Thailand-Cambodia border.

She urged both nations, as ASEAN members and close neighbors of Vietnam, to exercise maximum restraint, refrain from the use of force or any action that could escalate the situation, and resolve disputes peacefully and appropriately in accordance with international law, the UN Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, in the spirit of ASEAN unity and solidarity, for the long-term benefit of both countries and the region.
