Vu Trong Binh, head of the ministry’s Employment Department, said the government had already consulted trade unions and central agencies before finalizing the 2026 holiday calendar.
“As of today [Friday], there is no new policy beyond the earlier announcement,” he added.
Under the Labor Code, employees are entitled to one day off for Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day and two days for the Reunification Day and International Workers’ Day holiday.
In 2026, the Hung Kings holiday, which falls on the 10th day of the third lunar month, coincides with Sunday, April 26. Workers will receive a compensatory day off on Monday, April 27, resulting in a three-day break from April 25 to April 27.
For the Reunification Day and International Workers’ Day holiday, the two official days off fall on Thursday and Friday. Combined with the weekend, workers will have a four-day break from April 30 to May 3.
These schedules apply to public sector employees, while private sector workers may use annual leave to extend their breaks.
Later in the year, workers will also enjoy a five-day break for National Day on September 2, running from Saturday, August 29 to Wednesday, September 2.
This includes two official public holidays, two weekend days, and one additional day off due to a working schedule adjustment.
Private employers must announce their holiday arrangements at least 30 days in advance.
A notable addition to the calendar is Vietnam Culture Day on November 24, established under Resolution 80 signed by Party General Secretary To Lam.
Workers will receive a paid day off, raising the total number of official holidays in 2026 to 12.
