Vietnam launches first specialized electric school bus

What is new about Vietnam's first specialized electric school bus?

Vietnam's new electric school bus is the only passenger vehicle nationwide that meets all technical and safety standards for student transport under the 2024 Road Traffic Order and Safety Law.

The School Bus service combines three of Vietnam's leading green transport brands, using 100 percent VinFast electric vehicles, operated by VinBus, and managed on the Xanh SM technology platform.

The program aims to set a national model for safe and sustainable school transport.

The service uses the VinFast EB 6, a 19-seat electric minibus designed specifically for school transport.

The vehicle features quiet, smooth operation and complies fully with safety regulations.

Each bus is fitted with a Secure to Safe (S2S) monitoring system, including cameras at doors and passenger areas, GPS tracking, Face ID attendance, and a post-trip cabin check to ensure no student is left behind. 

All journey data is encrypted and securely shared with schools and operators.

The buses also have air purifiers and air quality sensors to protect students' health.

Drivers and supervisors receive specialized training in child safety and school conduct, and each trip follows VinBus's five-step safety protocol to ensure security and peace of mind for parents and schools.

The first School Bus trip picks up students from Vinschool The Harmony Secondary School in Hanoi.

Nguyen Cong Nhat, Deputy CEO of Operations at VinBus, said safety is always the top priority in all VinBus activities.

He added that every technology and procedure in the School Bus service is designed to ensure student safety and comfort, while providing reassurance to parents and schools.

Initially, the School Bus service will be available for schools within the Vinschool system in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

In the 2026-27 school year, it will expand to other private and international schools nationwide.

The service will also be integrated into the Xanh SM app, allowing parents to easily book rides and monitor student pick-up and drop-off in real time, while ensuring compliance with school data privacy regulations.

Beyond daily school transport, School Bus offers group transport services with flexible routes based on customer needs.

In the long term, GSM and VinBus aim to collaborate with educational institutions to standardize the Green School Transport model, raising quality standards, creating a safe and sustainable learning environment for the next generation, reducing emissions, promoting sustainable mobility, and supporting Vietnam's net-zero 2050 commitment.
