After nearly two years of construction, the facility was opened at the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park on Monday, with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in attendance.

Spanning more than 20 hectares and equipped with 1,300 server racks, it ranks among Southeast Asia's largest national-level data centers.

It is also the first in Vietnam to earn top international certifications for disaster resilience and cybersecurity.

Built to leading domestic and international standards for infrastructure, security, and environmental protection, the center includes units for data analysis and exploitation, storage, innovation, and more.

As a key pillar of digital transformation, the center consolidates national databases and serves as a hub for integrating, synchronizing, storing, sharing, and analyzing both individual and aggregated data.

Its advanced cloud infrastructure effectively supports government agencies and organizations, helping prevent data redundancy and resource inefficiency.

The ministry said the center will turn data into a strategic resource to advance digital government, policymaking, national security, and the digital economy.

It added that National Data Centers No. 2 and No. 3 will be developed in the future as part of a strategic roadmap.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Chinh commended the ministry, contractors, and suppliers for completing the project on schedule and to high standards.

He emphasized the need for a synchronized network of national data centers, with flexible interconnections and integration with global systems, starting with ASEAN.

The PM said the center must become the 'heart' of digital transformation, fostering connectivity, openness, and secure data sharing to support governance and development.

He assigned the ministry to coordinate with other agencies in drafting a decree on breakthrough mechanisms for data use, while also building an integration platform, deploying cloud computing and national data warehouses, and developing analytical systems for governance.

The ministry is further charged with upgrading the National Public Service Portal into a 'single digital window' platform, leveraging the center's advanced infrastructure.

PM Chinh also stressed the importance of consolidating the digital infrastructure requirements of ministries and localities to properly design and expand national data centers, as well as developing a plan for a centralized digital technology zone focused on data.

On the same day, he signed a decision approving the center's data strategy.
