Speaking at the event, Ho Kien Trung, deputy head of the Vietnam Environment Agency, said the institute's establishment carries significance beyond the association itself, playing an important role in the broader development of Vietnam's recycling sector.
Trung noted that as environmental policies are rolled out, particularly new regulations on extended producer responsibility, a clear gap remains between policy requirements and the actual implementation capacity of recycling enterprises.
"This reality requires businesses to access appropriate scientific and technological knowledge, reliable data, and in-depth professional consultancy in order to effectively apply these regulations in practice," he said.
He expressed hope that the institute would move beyond pure research to become an effective bridge between policy frameworks and the day-to-day production and business operations of recycling companies.
Under the association's assignment, Tran Viet Anh, chairman of the Vietnam Waste Recycling Association, will serve as the inaugural director of the Vietnam Recycling Institute.
Anh will be responsible for directing operations, organizing activities, and laying the foundation for the institute's early development.
At the launch ceremony, Anh reaffirmed his commitment, together with the institute's team, to building a transparent and efficient operating mechanism while promoting the practical application of science and technology in recycling activities.
He stated that the institute will maintain an open approach, encouraging participation from scientists, experts, and the business community so that all stakeholders can contribute and grow together.
"The guiding philosophy of the Vietnam Recycling Institute is to turn waste into resources, thereby contributing to the nation's sustainable development," Anh said.
The institute has set long-term goals of becoming a pioneer in recycling technology transfer, extended producer responsibility compliance consultancy, and high-quality human resource training.
Within the next three years, it aims to implement at least 10 major research and consultancy projects in recycling and establish a minimum of five strategic partnerships with leading organizations and enterprises.
