Vietnam Motor Show canceled for 2025 amid sluggish market: organizers

The 2025 Vietnam Motor Show, the largest annual automotive event in the country, has been canceled due to persistent market weakness and a lack of compelling new vehicle models, organizers announced on Monday.

The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) and the Vehicle Importers Vietnam Association (VIVA) said the decision followed consultations with industry members and a review of market conditions.

“We foresee 2025 remaining a challenging year for Vietnam’s auto manufacturing, assembly, and business sectors,” a VAMA representative said.

“Furthermore, many members are unprepared and short of new products to showcase at an event of this scale.”

Organizers said the show is expected to return in 2026 on a larger scale and with a completely-revamped format incorporating advanced interactive technologies, smart mobility solutions, green technology, charging infrastructure, financial services, and automotive support industries.

The show was postponed in 2023 for similar reasons, and the 2024 edition, held in Ho Chi Minh City, suffered from low participation by premium brands such as Mercedes‑Benz, BMW, Lexus, Audi, Volvo, Volkswagen, VinFast, Hyundai, KIA and Mazda—largely replaced by lower-cost manufacturers from China.

Analysts say automakers are shifting away from expensive exhibition models toward more cost-effective marketing strategies—such as targeted promotions, digital campaigns, and test drive events, according to VietNamNet and the Voice of Ho Chi Minh City.
