Vietnam national defense ministry expands fireworks production across 3 regions

On Thursday, Deputy Minister of National Defense Pham Hoai Nam met with the General Department of Defense Industry to discuss the expansion, which will involve increased production at the Z121 Plant in the northern province of Phu Tho, the country's sole licensed manufacturer of fireworks and explosive fireworks.

The Z121 Plant, which produced over 400,000 fireworks and nearly 50,000 low-altitude firework racks in 2024, has faced pressure due to growing demand.

The General Department of Defense Industry has reduced prices by an average of 10 percent this year, but challenges such as shortages, speculation, price hikes, and illegal production persist.

Under the new directive, the general department is tasked with expanding the Z121 Plant's capacity across all three regions through strategic investments, aiming to address domestic needs and explore export opportunities.

Site surveys are already underway, with the cooperation of military and civilian agencies to ensure timely implementation.

Deputy Minister Nam stressed the importance of integrating technology, ensuring safety, and controlling the market to prevent illegal activities, all while upholding the national defense sector's reputation.

The General Department of Defense Industry and Z121 Plant are urged to accelerate the process to meet both domestic and export demands, aligned with long-term development plans.
