The letter was issued shortly after Vietnam defeated South Korea on penalties in the early hours of Saturday, securing the bronze medal despite finishing the match with 10 players.

Writing on behalf of the government and football fans nationwide, Prime Minister Chinh praised the team for what he described as a "tenacious and courageous" performance throughout the tournament, highlighting the playoff match in which Vietnam prevailed with a reduced lineup.

He said the victory brought "excitement, joy and pride" to the people and contributed to celebrating the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which concluded on Friday.

The prime minister described the result as "a victory of will, belief and Vietnamese aspiration," and commended the team's disciplined, intelligent style of play and fighting spirit in representing the country.

The PM also acknowledged the "methodical and scientific" preparation of the coaching staff, the close guidance of the Vietnam Football Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as what he called the unity, determination, and quiet contributions of the players.

Referring to Vietnam's recent football achievements, including a gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand, the prime minister said the U23 team's journey at the continental tournament sent a strong message about a new generation of Vietnamese youth marked by ambition, resilience, and readiness to compete internationally.

He also thanked supporters across the country for their continued backing, saying their encouragement provided crucial motivation even in matches where results fell short of expectations.

Chinh said he was confident the team and coaching staff would continue to uphold the spirit of the "Golden Star Warriors," overcome challenges and achieve further success at regional and international competitions in the future.
