Vietnam police dismantle major drug ring, arrest 11 traffickers

The investigation police division on drug-related crimes under the provincial Department of Public Security announced on Wednesday evening that officers had apprehended B.B.C., a 46-year-old resident of Binh Minh Commune, identified as the alleged ringleader of the operation, along with 10 accomplices.

The investigation began in December last year, when investigators detected signs of an extensive drug trafficking network operating in the province.

C. employed sophisticated tactics and evasive methods, creating substantial challenges for law enforcement during the probe.

Adhering to a strategy of dismantling the network in its entirety rather than targeting individuals, officers carefully prepared an operational plan.

They waited until a large shipment was about to be delivered before launching coordinated arrests to prevent the drugs from being distributed locally.

On February 6, determining that the timing was right, Nguyen Duc Hai, director of the department, ordered the formation of three task forces, deploying hundreds of officers to detain the ringleader and key distributors within the network.

Over five consecutive days, from February 6 to 10, police arrested 11 suspects for investigation on charges of trafficking illegal drugs and organizing the unlawful use of narcotics.

Officers seized around five kilograms of methamphetamine and other related evidence.

Preliminary findings indicated that C. and his associates were responsible for trafficking some 20 kilograms of methamphetamine.

Officers are continuing to expand the investigation and handle the traffickers in accordance with the law.
