Vietnam police hunt for car driver who fatally crashed into GrabBike driver

Police in Ho Chi Minh City are hunting for a car driver who fatally crashed into a GrabBike driver and injured his passenger on early Thursday morning.

The accident occurred along Hong Ha Street in Phu Nhuan District at around 5:30 am, the district police unit confirmed on Friday.

A five-seater automobile was traveling at high speed when it entered the opposite lane and slammed into a motorbike ridden by Le Manh Thuong, a 64-year-old GrabBike driver.

Thuong was carrying 30-year-old Nguyen Thi Bich H., a stewardess.

The car driver abandoned the vehicle and left the scene following the crash.

The two victims were badly injured and admitted to the nearby 175 Military Hospital for emergency treatment.

Thuong later succumbed to his injuries, while H. suffered knee and pelvic fractures.

Police officers are working to identify and hunt for the driver.

Thuong’s funeral was organized at a relative’s home in Phu Nhuan District on Friday.

According to the family, Thuong lived with his son at a tenanted house in Tan Phu District.

He works as a GrabBike driver to afford education for his son, who is now in college.
