According to initial investigations, on September 24, Zhang Kai, a 29-year-old Chinese national, visited a casino in Duy Nghia Commune, Da Nang City, where he gambled and borrowed 200,000 yuan (US$28,000) from another Chinese man, He Kai, 46.

After losing all the borrowed money, Zhang Kai was forcibly taken by He Kai and two other men, Wang Jun, 30, and Wang Shao Bo, 40, to a guesthouse named N.H. in Thang An Commune, Da Nang City.

They held him under guard and forced him to call his family in China to repay the debt as a condition for release.

At around 7:00 pm on September 25, during an administrative inspection, officers from the Da Nang City Criminal Police discovered and rescued the victim.

Wang Jun and Wang Shao Bo were arrested at the scene, while the ringleader, He Kai, was later tracked down and taken into custody for further investigation.
