The company said global beer consumption totaled about 194 billion liters in 2024, up slightly by 0.5 percent from a year earlier.

China remained the world's largest beer market despite a contraction, with consumption at 40.5 billion liters, accounting for more than one-fifth of the global volume and marking a 3.7-percent year-on-year decline.

The U.S. placed second with 22.3 billion liters, continuing a gradual decline as consumers increasingly shift to other alcoholic beverages or adopt more moderate drinking habits.

Brazil ranked third with 15.3 billion liters, followed by Russia and Mexico, both of which recorded relatively strong growth, rising 9.0 percent and 5.4 percent respectively.

Vietnam shared eighth place globally with South Africa, with beer consumption totaling 4.6 billion liters, representing 2.4 percent of the global volume.

Compared with 2023, beer consumption in Vietnam edged up 0.6 percent, signaling steady demand even as the market has moved past the rapid expansion seen in earlier years.

In Asia, besides China and Vietnam, Japan and India also ranked among the world's top 15 beer-consuming countries.

India posted the fastest growth globally at 14.6 percent, supported by rising incomes and increasing beer consumption among younger consumers.

Europe, by contrast, showed a more uneven pattern.

Germany, the world's sixth-largest beer market, recorded a 2.2-percent drop in consumption in 2024, while markets such as the UK and Spain saw only marginal growth or little change from a year earlier.

Industry experts noted that total beer consumption not only reflects drinking habits but it is also closely tied to population size, economic growth, and shifts in consumer behavior.

As a result, while Vietnam does not rank among the world's leading countries in per-capita beer consumption, its large population and broad consumer base continue to secure it a prominent position on the global beer map.
