PM Chinh made the statement during a phone call with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday evening, held at the latter’s request, according to Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The call followed the ceasefire agreement reached by Thailand and Cambodia during negotiations in Malaysia on Monday, which were arranged and coordinated by Prime Minister Ibrahim with support from the U.S. and China.

PM Chinh commended the personal efforts of Prime Minister Anwar and Malaysia, the current ASEAN Chair, in helping to resolve the Cambodia–Thailand border tensions.

Chinh reaffirmed that Vietnam consistently supports and stands ready to contribute to ASEAN’s efforts in addressing regional issues and maintaining intra-bloc solidarity, particularly in close coordination with Malaysia as the chair.

He also affirmed that Vietnam is prepared to send representatives to ASEAN-led mechanisms aimed at supporting the implementation of the ceasefire and providing humanitarian assistance to affected populations in both countries, as proposed by Malaysia.

PM Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to advancing dialogue and fostering unity and solidarity in addressing the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.

Malaysia continues to call on both sides to exercise restraint, refrain from the use of force, and resolve disputes peacefully and constructively, in accordance with the principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

PM Chinh welcomed the regular phone exchanges between the two leaders, which enable timely coordination and information-sharing on matters of mutual concern.

He noted that such engagement reflects the growing political trust between the two countries in general, and between their top leaders in particular, in line with the spirit of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership.
