The foreign ministry's spokesperson Pham Thu Hang shared the information in Hanoi in response to questions about international support and how foreign aid will be delivered to affected communities.
Hang said many parts of Vietnam had recently endured consecutive natural disasters, including historic flooding that caused severe losses of life and property.
“In the face of these heavy losses, Vietnam has received sympathy, encouragement, and support in the form of financial assistance and essential supplies and equipment from other countries and international organizations,” she said.
“The total value of this support is estimated at nearly $16 million so far."
Relevant authorities will distribute the assistance directly to disaster-hit areas and ensure it reaches affected residents.
Hang also noted that in recent days many touching stories had emerged of foreign visitors and volunteers working with local people and authorities in several provinces and cities to support flooded communities.
She said these gestures reflect international solidarity and humanitarian spirit, providing meaningful encouragement as residents struggle to recover and stabilize their lives.
As of Thursday morning, historic flooding in central Vietnam, especially in south-central provinces, had left 98 people dead and 10 missing, according to a quick report from the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.
From the beginning of the year to November 24, natural disasters nationwide resulted in 409 deaths and missing people and injured 727 others.
More than 3,700 houses collapsed, were swept away or completely destroyed, while over 333,000 homes were damaged or had their roofs torn off.
Total losses are estimated at about VND85,099 billion ($3.23 billion).
In response to the widespread damage, several countries have announced additional aid packages for Vietnam, and a number of international organizations have already delivered emergency relief supplies for distribution to disaster-affected areas.
