Vietnam on Thursday morning logged three COVID-19 cases, including two local infections and one imported patient, raising the national tally to 883.
Two of the three new cases reported in central Quang Nam Province revealed links to the outbreak in Da Nang while the other was an imported patient who was quarantined upon arrival.
The imported case is a 40-year-old woman with a permanent address in Hanoi who arrived in Vietnam from Saudi Arabia on flight VN5002 on August 9.
After landing at Can Tho International Airport in the namesake Mekong Delta city, she was brought to a centralized COVID-19 quarantine center in Bac Lieu Province.
She tested positive for the novel coronavirus on August 11. She is now isolated and treated at Bac Lieu Province General Hospital.
The two community-based cases, aged 51 and 83, are linked to previous COVID-19 patients and can be traced to the outbreak epicenter in Da Nang.
They are being isolated and treated at Quang Nam Regional General Hospital after testing positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday.
Vietnam’s COVID-19 tally stood at 883, including 322 imported cases quarantined upon arrival, as of Thursday morning.
Since July 25, there have been 421 new local infections in Vietnam, most of which are linked to Da Nang, including nearly 20 medical workers.
Eighteen COVID-19 patients have died in Vietnam so far, most with severe concomitant conditions.
About 15 COVID-19 patients in the country remain severely ill due to underlying conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and bone marrow failure, and require a ventilator or ECMO machine, doctors said at a consultation focusing on the treatment of serious COVID-19 patients in Vietnam held on Wednesday afternoon.
