Vietnam secures broadcasting rights for 33rd SEA Games

FPT Play confirmed on Saturday evening that it has officially obtained the broadcasting rights for the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, set to take place in Thailand in December, noting that at least two other Vietnamese television stations will also broadcast the multi-sport event.

Details regarding the broadcasting rights will be announced by the participating broadcasters in the coming weeks.

The host has required each broadcaster wishing to air the event to pay a participation fee of US$20,000.

This amount is not considered a traditional broadcasting rights fee, but rather a ‘broadcast participation fee,’ as described by the organizers.

Earlier, in an interview with Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, Tran Van Manh, secretary-general of the Vietnam Olympic Committee (VOC), revealed that five Vietnamese broadcasters had contacted the Thai host through the VOC to negotiate the rights to broadcast the SEA Games.

Among them were national broadcaster Vietnam Television (VTV), FPT Play, and Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV).

The host will provide clean feeds to licensed broadcasters, with the participation fee set at $20,000 per station.

The 33rd SEA Games will take place in Thailand from December 9 to 20, featuring some 574 medal events across 50 sports.

The Vietnamese sports delegation aims to win between 80 and 100 gold medals.

Vietnam is set to send one of its largest-ever delegations to the 33rd SEA Games, with more than 1,000 athletes, coaches, medical staff, experts, and officials expected to participate, according to Sports Authority of Vietnam.
