Vietnam seeks to further deepen practical, effective ties with North Korea: special envoy

Vietnam wishes to promote its relations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in a more substantive and effective manner, Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung, the special envoy of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, said on Wednesday.

Minister Trung made the remarks during meetings with North Korean officials aimed at strengthening ties and cooperation between the two countries, according to the foreign ministry.

He held separate meetings with Kim Song Nam, member of the Politburo of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK), secretary of the WPK Central Committee, and director of the International Department of the WPK Central Committee, and Choe Son Hui, member of the Politburo and Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Korea.

At both meetings, Minister Trung affirmed that the Party, state, and people of Vietnam always wish to further strengthen and promote Vietnam–North Korea relations in a more substantive and effective manner, in line with the aspirations of the two peoples while contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

He congratulated North Korea on the successful organization of the 9th WPK Congress.

He also informed host officials of the successful outcomes of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s 14th National Congress, which set out guidelines, objectives, key tasks, and strategic breakthroughs aimed at achieving fast and sustainable development in a new era while steadfastly maintaining the goal of national independence and socialism under the consistent principle of placing the people at the center.

In a friendly and open atmosphere, both sides agreed to continue strengthening political trust, promoting cooperation in areas suited to the needs of both sides, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.

They also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern and agreed to strengthen coordination at multilateral forums such as the United Nations and the ASEAN Regional Forum, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

At the meeting with Minister Trung, Secretary Kim warmly welcomed him as special envoy of General Secretary and State President Lam to North Korea to convey the outcomes of Vietnam’s 14th National Party Congress and to congratulate North Korea on the success of the 9th WPK Congress.

The secretary emphasized that the congress has become an important milestone for the Party, state, and people of Vietnam as the country enters a new stage of development.

He expressed confidence that under the leadership of the CPV, headed by General Secretary and State President Lam, the Vietnamese people would successfully accomplish the goals set by the congress.

Meanwhile, Minister Choe said during her meeting with Minister Trung that General Secretary and State President Lam’s decision to send a special envoy to North Korea to convey the outcomes of the CPV’s 14th National Congress demonstrated the high regard of the Party, state, and people of Vietnam for North Korea.

She warmly congratulated Vietnam on the success of the congress and highly valued the country’s socio-economic achievements and growing international standing.

She affirmed North Korea’s consistent position of attaching importance to developing traditional friendly relations between the two Parties and two countries, in line with the interests of the two peoples and in accordance with the understandings reached by the two countries’ senior leaders at their meeting in Pyongyang in October 2025.
