The update was shared during the ‘Connecting VNeID Safely and Conveniently’ seminar, organized by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
The event gathered lawmakers, government officials, tech leaders, and representatives from sectors like healthcare, education, and utilities to discuss integration and expansion of Vietnam’s national digital ID platform, VNeID.
Major Tran Duy Hien, deputy head of the National Population Data Center under the Ministry of Public Security, revealed that over 62 million electronic ID accounts have been issued to Vietnamese citizens, with daily usage from 2024 to early 2025 averaging 3-6 million logins—three to four times higher than in 2023.
Over 292 million accounts have also been created for organizations, including mandatory accounts for those accessing online public services.
“From July 1, we will start issuing digital ID accounts to foreigners in Vietnam,” Hien stated.
“This is part of building a secure, people-centered digital ecosystem.”
He emphasized that VNeID prioritizes five critical pillars, including legal frameworks, data integrity, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and human resources.
Features like chip-based ID cards and user-controlled document integration are designed to enhance both security and user autonomy.
The National Population Data Center has connected with 12 major banks, allowing them to request ID verification through VNeID.
However, citizens must approve any data sharing requests before information is accessed.
Beyond identity management, VNeID has expanded into services like e-prescriptions in collaboration with major pharmacy chains, and even supported digital condolence messages during last year's passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
In the coming time, new features on the VNeID app will include tools to support the upcoming National Party Congress, such as a feedback portal for draft documents, voter engagement modules, and integration with the Party’s internal communications systems.
