The traffic police said on Thursday that they had identified and penalized two teenagers featured in a video circulating on social media.
The footage showed the teenagers riding motorbikes along National Highway 4C in Can Ty Commune, with one taking both hands off the handlebars to perform dance moves known locally as 'mua quat' (fan dance). The video also captured reckless swerving on the road.
Following an investigation, police identified the rider performing the stunt as a 16-year-old resident of Bach Dich Commune and confiscated his motorbike for riding hands-free.
The other teenager, 17, also from Bach Dich Commune, was fined VND750,000 (US$29) for riding a motorcycle while underage and without a helmet.
Authorities warned that National Highway 4C, known for its winding mountain passes and treacherous terrain, attracts large numbers of tourists.
Riding hands-free and swerving on the highway poses serious risks to both motorcyclists and other road users, police said.
