Vietnam to have more EV charging stations for multiple brands

The deal focuses on ensuring compatibility among vehicles, charging stations, and related technology platforms.

Under the deal, the two sides will develop technical solutions to ensure vehicles within the TC Group ecosystem can use VGX charging stations.

They also plan to integrate technology platforms to support customers throughout the charging process.

The two companies have not yet disclosed the number of stations, specific locations or detailed customer policies.

For TC Group, working with a dedicated charging-infrastructure provider offers an alternative way to expand its charging network without having to develop the entire system independently.

VGX, meanwhile, could gain access to additional vehicles and customers through TC Group's distribution network.

Toward shared charging stations for multiple brands

The agreement marks an initial step toward expanding infrastructure for electrified vehicles, said Nguyen Ngoc Tu, deputy general director of Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex) and chairman of VGX.

VGX is also pursuing an open charging-station model capable of serving vehicles from multiple brands, he added.

Le Ngoc Duc, vice-chairman of Thanh Cong Group, said expanding the network of partners would improve customers' access to energy infrastructure as the number of EVs increases.

Charging infrastructure is becoming an increasingly important factor in the adoption of electric cars and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Vietnam.

Access to charging points, charging times, and compatibility between vehicles and charging systems can directly affect the user experience.

The partnership comes as Vietnam's market sees a growing number of electric and plug-in hybrid models.

VGX, a joint venture between Petrolimex, Xuan Cau Holdings, and Selex Motors, is developing a charging network at fuel stations, rest stops, and other suitable locations.

Meanwhile, TC Group operates an automobile distribution network across numerous provinces and cities and is expanding its range of electrified vehicles.

The group's existing facilities could also be considered for the installation of additional charging points.
