The tournament is scheduled to take place in July 2027, shortly after the 2028 AFC U23 Asian Cup Qualifiers, which is expected to be held in June 2027.

Hosting the competition will give Vietnam’s U23 team an opportunity to maintain its international match experience, assess its squad, and improve its performance as it prepares for the 34th Southeast Asian Games, set to take place in Malaysia in September 2027.

This will be the first time Vietnam has hosted the tournament, marking recognition by the AFF of the Vietnam Football Federation’s credibility, experience, and capacity to organize international competitions.

The ASEAN U23 Championship was first held in 2005 but was suspended for several years before returning in 2019.

Since its revival, the tournament has been organized regularly and has become an important platform for developing young football talent across Southeast Asia.

Vietnam competed in the 2019, 2022, 2023 and 2025 editions, winning the last three titles on foreign soil.

The achievements reflect the growth, resilience, and consistency of Vietnamese youth football, providing a foundation for the team to pursue greater ambitions at the continental level.
