Vietnam to provide up to $3,840 in support for severely injured crash victims from September

The Traffic Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security said on Thursday that the support policy is funded by the Road Accident Damage Reduction Fund, a financial mechanism designed to mobilize social resources and support initiatives aimed at reducing road traffic accident damage nationwide.

Under the new regulations, the fund can provide assistance to disadvantaged accident victims and families of people killed in traffic accidents.

Victims who suffer bodily injuries of more than 31 percent but less than 81 percent and face financial difficulties may receive up to VND10 million ($384) per person per accident.

Families of traffic accident victims who died and are facing financial hardship may receive up to VND20 million ($768) per case.

For victims with bodily injuries of more than 81 percent, the fund may provide up to VND100 million ($3,840) per person per case to support their community reintegration and continued development.

Organizations and individuals who directly assist, provide emergency treatment to or transport accident victims to medical facilities may also receive support, with a maximum of VND10 million per case for organizations and VND5 million ($192) for individuals.

The department emphasized that these are maximum support amounts.

The actual amount awarded in each case will depend on the submitted documents, the circumstances of the case and applicable legal regulations.

Eligible organizations and individuals may submit their applications in person, online or by post.

The designated receiving authority must verify the validity of an application within two working days.

If the application is complete, a request for disbursement will be prepared according to the prescribed procedures and deadlines.

The designated authorities responsible for receiving applications and preparing dossiers include units under the Traffic Police Department and traffic police divisions of provincial and municipal Departments of Public Security, within their respective jurisdictions.

The Traffic Police Department also said authorities are responsible for proactively reviewing and identifying people who qualify for assistance and preparing applications for disbursement from the fund.

The new support policy is intended to help ease the financial burden on traffic accident victims and their families.

In addition to providing financial assistance, the fund accepts voluntary contributions in cash and kind from organizations and individuals both in Vietnam and abroad.
