In a landmark move that underscores Vietnam's growing ambition in high technology, Vingroup has debuted the nation’s first domestically developed humanoid robot – VinMotion.

Vietnam unveils first humanoid robot in bold leap into global tech

Vietnam debuts its first humanoid robot produced by Vingroup’s subsidiary.

The debut marked a significant step in Vietnam’s effort to claim a place in the fiercely competitive global robotics race.

VinMotion is the flagship product of the newly formed VinMotion, a subsidiary of Vietnam's largest private conglomerate Vingroup.

Founded in January 2025, the company, with a charter capital of VND1,000 billion (US$38.4 million), is in charge of developing and commercializing humanoid robots, as well as representing Vietnam’s entry into one of the most demanding technological arenas of the 21st century.

Within just over three months of its establishment, VinMotion’s team of Vietnamese engineers successfully produced the first working prototype.

This robot can walk, wave, and interact using basic gestures, showing vast potential for use in manufacturing, services, and everyday life.

VinMotion said that during the initial period, the robot will be deployed in electric vehicle maker VinFast’s production plants, where it will assist with parts transportation, quality checks, and repetitive assembly-line tasks.

Looking ahead, VinMotion aims to develop smarter, more advanced robots equipped with language processing, visual recognition, and interactive capabilities to benefit such fields as logistics, healthcare, education, customer service, and even in-home personal assistance.

Trillion-dollar industry on the horizon

According to a report by Citibank, the global robotics market, particularly the humanoid robot segment, could reach a staggering value of $7 trillion by 2050, with over 600 million units used worldwide.

Vingroup’s entry into this market not only signals a bold business move, but also reflects Vietnam's ambition to shift from a technology consumer to a technology creator.

“VinMotion is proof of Vietnamese capability in mastering advanced technologies. We want the world to know that Vietnam can create technology, not just consume it,” said Pham Nhat Vuong, Vietnam’s first billionaire as recognized by Forbes.

Strategic investment for the future

VinMotion is part of a broader, long-term investment strategy by Vingroup to lead in cutting-edge fields.

Other tech firms under the group’s umbrella include VinAI (artificial intelligence), VinBrain (medical AI), VinBigData (big data analytics), and VinES (energy solutions).

Apart from in-house development, VinMotion is actively collaborating with international research institutions and global tech enterprises to accelerate its commercialization timeline.

More than a product, VinMotion stands as a symbol of Vietnam’s determination to chart its own path in the era of artificial intelligence and automation.

The appearance of a ‘made-in-Vietnam' humanoid robot acts as a key milestone for Vietnam during its global integration and technology development journey.
