Vietnam welcomes US recognition of anti-human trafficking efforts

Vietnam has welcomed the United States’ acknowledgment of its progress in combating human trafficking, describing the 2025 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report as an objective reflection of the country’s recent achievements, Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said on Thursday.

Speaking at a regular press briefing in Hanoi, Hang responded to questions from Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reporters regarding the U.S. Department of State’s latest TIP Report, which featured updated assessments on Vietnam’s performance.

“Vietnam appreciates the U.S. for providing an objective assessment of the positive results achieved by Vietnam in its anti-human trafficking efforts in recent times," Hang said.

Hang emphasized that Vietnam has been implementing measures in accordance with the Program on Human Trafficking Prevention and Control for the 2021–25 period, with a vision to 2030.

A key milestone, she said, was the adoption of the 2024 Law on Human Trafficking Prevention and Control.

The government has also strengthened investigations, prosecutions, and trials of trafficking cases while ensuring timely support for victims, Hang said.

These efforts, she added, demonstrate Vietnam’s ability to respond to emerging regional and global trafficking challenges.

Vietnam is also advancing the goals of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration under a national plan approved by the Prime Minister in March 2020.

The plan aims to enhance transparency in migration management, protect migrants’ lawful rights, and minimize trafficking risks in cross-border movement.

“Given the Vietnam–U.S. comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development, Vietnam hopes the two countries will continue promoting dialogue and exchange to ensure a more comprehensive and positive assessment of Vietnam’s efforts in combating human trafficking in the future,” Hang said.
