The Vietnam Chess Federation announced on Sunday that rising chess stars Nguyen Binh Vy and Nguyen Nam Kiet had made impressive performances.
With decisive moves and sharp tactical insight, Nguyen Binh Vy, belonging to the U17 girls’ category, overcame strong opponents from chess powerhouses including Russia and Uzbekistan to claim the gold medal in the rapid chess event.
Her success continued in the blitz competition, where the high school student scored seven points out of nine games, earning a silver medal and recognition as the tournament’s most outstanding player.
Following Vy’s achievements, Nguyen Nam Kiet stood out in the U15 boys’ blitz chess category.
His main rival, Turkish Grandmaster Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, is considered one of the world’s top young players.
In a tense and competitive series, Kiet scored 7.5 points from nine games, finishing just half a point behind Erdogmus to claim the silver medal.
The championship brought together 314 young players from 33 countries, competing in U9, U11, U13, U15, and U17 age groups in both rapid and blitz events for boys and girls.
Vietnam fielded 10 players across different age categories.
