This year’s competition, themed ‘Basketball Warriors,’ featured 14 teams from 13 countries and territories, including Cambodia, Egypt, Hong Kong, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In the final match, Japan delivered a spectacular performance, with a thrilling score chase and a decisive slam dunk, defeating Hong Kong 12-9 to claim the ABU Robocon 2025 championship.

Vietnam’s LH – UDS team, from Dong Nai Province, faced intense challenges throughout the tournament.

Their match against Hong Kong was particularly dramatic with multiple stoppages as referees consulted video reviews, ultimately resulting in a 6-3 victory for Hong Kong.

In a closely contested game against host Mongolia 1, Vietnam secured a 6-5 victory in the final moments, earning a spot in the quarterfinal.

There, they defeated Indonesia 9-3 to advance to the semifinal against Japan.

The semifinal proved to be a tense back-and-forth contest, with Japan narrowly emerging victorious 12-9.

Ultimately, the LH – UDS team earned third place, after Japan and Hong Kong.

The team also claimed the ABU award, which is selected by a council of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), the organizer of the contest, according to Dong Nai Online.

The ‘Basketball Warriors’ theme challenged competing teams with high-intensity direct confrontations, the integration of advanced technologies into robot design, and strategic gameplay that demanded precise control from the very start.

The matches delivered thrilling and suspenseful moments for the audience throughout the competition.

First launched in 2002 in Japan, ABU Robocon serves as a regional platform for university students passionate about robotics.

The 2026 ABU Robocon final is scheduled to take place in Hong Kong.
