The Vietnamese women’s team opened their campaign with a quarterfinal match against Malaysia, where Linh was selected to play the opening singles against Letshanaa Karupathevan.
Although ranked 22nd in the world, 20 places above her opponent, Linh did not have an easy start.
Karupathevan, born in 2003 and known for her speed and stamina, pushed the Vietnamese player into difficult positions and pulled off a surprising win in the first game.
Drawing on her experience, Linh regained control in the second game.
She dominated to take the game 21-10, leveling the match.
The deciding set turned into a dramatic battle.
Both players fought fiercely for each point, and the momentum seemed to tilt toward Malaysia when Karupathevan earned two match points.
However, Linh mounted a timely comeback, sealing the match with a 23-21 victory.
Speaking after the match, Linh admitted it had been a demanding encounter, crediting her opponent’s determination.
Her victory marks an encouraging start for Vietnam’s badminton team as they pursue successful outcomes at the 33rd SEA Games.
