Vietnamese EV maker VinFast teams up with international partners to advance self-driving technology

VinFast has announced a strategic partnership with NVIDIA and AI firm Autobrains to develop a level-4 autonomous robotaxi platform, marking a significant step in the Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) maker’s self-driving auto ambitions and its efforts to address complex transportation challenges in Southeast Asia.

The announcement was made on Monday during the NVIDIA GTC Taipei, held as part of the Taipei International Information Technology Show (COMPUTEX 2026), a leading global exhibition focused on AIoT and startups, which runs in Taiwan from Tuesday to Friday.

The partnership is expected to create the first level-4 robotaxi platform based on an AI agent architecture, enabling large-scale deployment across commercial vehicle fleets.

According to VinFast, current autonomous driving systems continue to face obstacles, including technological complexity, high computing costs, and inconsistent performance outside controlled testing environments.

To overcome these limitations, the company’s robotaxi platform will be built on the NVIDIA DRIVE Hyperion 10 computing architecture and integrated with Agentic AI software developed by Autobrains.

A key different point of the project is its modular open architecture and the operational model of Agentic AI.

Unlike many existing autonomous systems that rely on end-to-end AI models, Autobrains’ technology employs multiple specialized AI agents that are activated only when specific driving tasks need to be performed.

VinFast said this approach allows the system to respond more effectively to real-world traffic situations while significantly reducing data-processing demands and easing the burden on computing hardware.

The EV maker has identified Southeast Asia as a priority region for the development of its level-4 robotaxi technology.

The region is widely regarded as one of the world’s most challenging traffic environments, characterized by high vehicle density, diverse modes of transportation, and varying urban infrastructure conditions.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Duong, an executive at VinFast and head of the ADAS/AD Research Institute, said the company aims to create scalable and accessible autonomous driving solutions through partnerships with leading global technology firms.

“Joining forces with Autobrains and NVIDIA, we are building a practical and cost-efficient pathway toward level-4 mobility technology that can operate effectively in the dynamic real-world traffic conditions of Southeast Asia,” Duong said.

The tech partners also expressed confidence in the project’s potential.

Rishi Dhall, vice-president of Automotive Business at NVIDIA, said the NVIDIA DRIVE platform would help VinFast accelerate the creation of safe autonomous vehicles capable of handling complex traffic conditions while supporting the broader shift toward software-defined vehicles.

Meanwhile, Autobrains CEO Igal Raichelgauz described the initiative as the first level-4 robotaxi platform utilizing AI agent architecture specifically designed for large-scale deployment in commercial vehicles.
