The commander of Naval Ship 743 under Naval Squadron 129 said on Sunday evening that the vessel had spotted the fisherman at around 6:00 pm the same day while carrying out a mission about two nautical miles east of the Thang Long oil and gas rig.

Despite darkness and rough seas, officers and sailors on board quickly approached the fisherman and launched a rescue operation.

At around 7:00 pm, they successfully brought him aboard the naval vessel.

The fisherman was identified as Truong Van Trung, 46, a resident of An Giang Province.

He said he had been working on a fishing boat before falling overboard on August 12.

Trung said he had drifted at sea continuously for four days before being rescued.

According to the commander of Naval Ship 743, Trung was in very weak physical and mental condition after going without food and water for four days. He could not yet remember which fishing boat he had fallen from.

After bringing him aboard, officers and sailors checked his health, provided him with food and water, and arranged a place for him to rest.
