A 67-year-old Vietnamese-French man, who was also a swimming coach in France, drowned at a beach in Nha Trang City, the capital city of Khanh Hoa Province in south-central Vietnam, on Tuesday morning after he swam there against strong wave warnings.
Locals quickly detected that the man, whose name was reported by local media as R.M., was struggling in the seawater by a hotel at 36 Tran Phu Street and called for help.
Rescuers swiftly arrived at the scene but could not save him.
The victim’s body was then handed over to his family.
R.M., 67, is a swimming coach in France, usually returning to Nha Trang once a year, according to his family.
Authorities erected warning signs about beach swimming in Nha Trang due to rough waves in recent days, according to Nguyen Van Hung, leader of a rescue team under the management board of Nha Trang Bay.
R.M. apparently ignored those warning signs.
