The suspect, Pham Minh Phuc, from Ia Ly Commune, was prosecuted following an investigation into the killing of S.K., a 20-year-old Lao national studying at the Vietnam National University of Forestry’s Gia Lai campus.
Investigators said Phuc met S.K. through social media in September 2024 and the two developed a romantic relationship.
Recently, however, Phuc became jealous, believing she was romantically involved with someone else.
On Monday evening, after drinking beer with friends, Phuc went to S.K.’s dorm room intending to confront her.
At around 9:30 pm, he smashed a window with a brick to enter the room, demanded she apologize, and then stabbed her with a knife, causing fatal injuries.
Phuc later turned himself in to police and admitted to the crime.
Gia Lai provincial police said they are coordinating with the Lao Consulate General in Da Nang City, central Vietnam to protect the victim’s rights and support her family.
Authorities stressed that the case is under further investigation and legal proceedings will follow.
