The Phu Xuan Ward administration on Sunday confirmed that they acted quickly after receiving reports on social media about the pollution.
A joint team including local police, urban infrastructure officers, and neighborhood representatives inspected the site and identified the offender as Ngo Quoc C., a resident of Le Duan Street.
During questioning, C. admitted to discarding multiple empty glass bottles into the river.
He explained that he regularly drank beer of the S.V. brand but local shops refused to buy back the empty bottles for recycling or resale.
Instead of disposing of them properly, he dumped them into the river.
Authorities issued a violation report under environmental protection regulations and ordered C. to immediately hire a boat to collect all the bottles from the river.
He was also required not to repeat the offense.
Local officials said the case highlights the urgent need to raise public awareness about protecting the environment and preserving urban landscapes, especially Hue’s river system.
This is not the first time residents have expressed anger over irresponsible behavior.
Recently, another man was criticized for uprooting water lilies from the Ngu Ha River.
Authorities have urged citizens to properly dispose of waste and avoid damaging public spaces.
