Vietnamese passenger transport firm violates speed limit over 6,000 times in one month

A passenger transport company in Quang Ngai, a province in central Vietnam, had its fleet violate the speed limit more than 6,000 times in January this year, according to the Department for Roads of Vietnam.

The department's traffic monitoring data showed that vans operated by Viet Thang High Quality Transport Service and Trading One Member Co. Ltd, which is based in Quang Ngai’s Duc Pho Town, exceeded the speed limit 6,131 times on a total of 12,348km from January 1 to 31.

On average, 12 buses of the company drove over the speed limit 200 times a day on the Quang Ngai-Ho Chi Minh City route during the month-long period.

Besides Viet Thang, Mien Trung Passenger Car Co. Ltd, Quang Ngai Bus Station JSC, and Mien Trung Transport Service Cooperative, all of which are headquartered in the same province, had 12, eight, and 23 buses commit 1,539, 2,360, and 3,800 speed violations in January, respectively.

The traffic monitoring data also showed that vehicles owned by family-run businesses providing passenger transport services in the same province such as Do Ngoc Thanh, Nguyen Van Binh, and My Khiem breached the speed limit 394 times, 104 times, and 104 times, respectively.

Although transport watchdogs in Quang Ngai have carried out many measures to control traffic, the number of speed violations recorded in the province has not decreased.

On February 14, 10 people were killed after a passenger van of Quang Ngai-based Son Tinh Transport Cooperative hit a tractor-trailer at an intersection in neighboring Quang Nam Province.

The van was traveling at 69km an hour at the time of the crash.

The Quang Ngai Department of Transport has announced that it will revoke transport badges from vehicles that repeat speed violations.
