This marked the PM's second engagement with U.S. enterprises within two months, highlighting the Vietnamese government's commitment to fostering a conducive business environment and open dialogue.
The meeting occurred against the backdrop of ongoing trade negotiations between Vietnam and the U.S.
In April, the U.S. announced a 46-percent reciprocal tariff on Vietnamese imports, effective April 9, as part of its global tariff policy. Its implementation was then delayed for 90 days to allow for negotiations.
The dialogue brought together officials from the U.S. Embassy, the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi (AmCham Hanoi), and over 50 leading American corporations, including Boeing, Molex, Excelerate Energy, Abbott, Coca-Cola, and GE Vernova.
During the meeting, the U.S. business representatives expressed appreciation for the Vietnamese government's proactive approach in engaging with the business community to address challenges and promote Vietnam-U.S. trade and investment cooperation.
They acknowledged the government's goodwill in regularly organizing dialogues to listen to and resolve issues hindering business operations.
The U.S. delegates proposed that Vietnam continue to improve its investment and business environment by addressing specific obstacles and facilitating production and business activities.
Key suggestions included streamlining administrative procedures, reducing non-tariff barriers, and clarifying matters related to taxes, fees, and charges.
Additionally, they emphasized the importance of ensuring infrastructure conditions, such as electricity supply, information technology, and logistics.
Strengthening management and supervision to ensure transparency and product origin, expediting the implementation of bilateral agreements, and resolving issues in specific projects were also highlighted.
Vietnam pursues balanced trade with US
PM Chinh affirmed Vietnam's proactive and positive efforts to promote balanced and sustainable economic and trade cooperation with the U.S..
He expressed hope that the U.S. would continue to support Vietnam – a country that has endured significant wartime losses, embargoes, and external shocks.
The Vietnamese government chief affirmed that Vietnam remains open to dialogue and strives for balanced, sustainable trade while combating trade fraud and counterfeit goods.
He called upon U.S. businesses to actively convey Vietnam's efforts and goodwill to President Donald Trump's administration, aiming for the adoption of favorable solutions that promote balanced and sustainable trade cooperation, including mutually beneficial tariff agreements for both immediate and long-term interests.
Vietnam's key strategies
PM Chinh outlined Vietnam's implementation of the four strategic breakthroughs, including scientific and technological development, creative innovation, national digital transformation; international integration in the current global context; legal framework development and enforcement; and private economic sector development.
The PM emphasized the government's commitment to creating optimal conditions and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of enterprises, including American firms, to ensure effective and sustainable cooperation, investment, and business operations in Vietnam.
He also noted that Vietnam continues to reform visa policies for foreign nationals, including U.S. citizens, and expressed hope that the U.S. government would consider favorable visa policies for Vietnamese citizens.
