Vietnamese store's fake Nike, Adidas shoes exposed after customer ships gift to Russia

The provincial Sub-Department of Market Surveillance said on Saturday that it had taken action after L.T.T. filed a complaint alleging that Sport Market, a store located at 3 Tran Quang Khai Street in Nha Trang Ward, had sold her counterfeit Nike and Adidas shoes.

T. said she visited the store after seeing advertisements from well-known bloggers and key opinion leaders in Nha Trang and bought two pairs of shoes, one Nike and one Adidas, for a total of VND1.3 million (nearly $50) to send to her boyfriend in Russia, according to the department.

After the shoes arrived in Russia, a specialist examined them and confirmed that they were counterfeit rather than genuine Nike and Adidas products, T. said.

She then contacted the store to report the problem, but the shop refused to accept the shoes back or refund her money, citing her lack of an invoice, according to the department.

Following her complaint, the Khanh Hoa Department of Industry and Trade directed a market surveillance team to inspect Sport Market.

The inspection found that the household business was trading in fake shoes showing signs of infringing the Nike and Adidas trademarks protected in Vietnam.

The team subsequently issued the administrative fine and enforced the destruction of all infringing inventory.
