Vietnamese shuttler advances to German Open quarterfinals

Vietnamese shuttler Nguyen Thuy Linh has secured a spot in the German Open 2025 quarterfinals after a dominant performance in round 2 on Friday morning (Vietnam time).

Linh faced India’s Aakarshi Kashyap, who entered the match ranked 48th in the world, 19 places behind the Vietnamese player.

The skill gap was evident early on, as Linh’s precise and aggressive play quickly established a lead at 3-0, 4-1, and 7-3.

Kashyap attempted to rally but struggled to keep pace, with Linh taking the first set 21-14.

The second set followed a similar pattern.

Kashyap briefly tied the score at 3-3, but Linh responded with five consecutive points, surging ahead 8-3 before closing out the match 21-17.

With the win, Linh moves on to face India’s Tasnim Mir, ranked 72nd, in the quarterfinals.

Given the ranking difference, Linh is favored to advance to the semifinals.

Last year, Linh made history as the first Vietnamese shuttler to reach the German Open final, though she fell to Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt.
