Police said Wednesday that they had filed charges against and temporarily detained 71 suspects on allegations of drug trafficking, illegal possession of narcotics, and organizing the illegal use of drugs.
Among those prosecuted are Dinh Long Nhat, 59, a singer known by the stage name Long Nhat, and Son Ngoc Minh, 36, also a singer.
Both have been charged with organizing the illegal use of drugs.

According to police, while investigating drug trafficking, possession of narcotics, and organizing drug use uncovered in the city during the first quarter of this year, investigators identified many additional suspects beyond those already processed.
Besides the 71 suspects who have been prosecuted and temporarily detained, three others received administrative penalties.
Ho Chi Minh City police stated that the strict handling of the suspects reflects the police force’s consistent stance that no one is above the law and that there are no exceptions in the fight against drug-related crime, emphasizing that all violations of the law would be detected, investigated and strictly handled.
Singer Long Nhat is known for performing bolero, and folk-inspired songs.
He rose to fame in the mid-1990s while performing with the Hai Dang music troupe in Nha Trang.
He later moved to Ho Chi Minh City, where he continued working as a singer and television host, participated in numerous TV programs, and released several albums.

Meanwhile, singer Son Ngoc Minh began his music career as a member of the boy band V-Music.
After the group disbanded, he pursued a solo career and also participated in acting projects and television game shows.
In previous years, Son Ngoc Minh attracted public attention over discussions about his sexuality, personal relationships, health, and a period during which he withdrew from public life.
