Nguyen Thi Bich Hoa, chairwoman of the People’s Committee of Quy Nhon Nam Ward, on Saturday confirmed that the suspension was imposed on an English-language teacher, identified as N., at Nguyen Van Cu Elementary School.
The case emerged after multiple parents reported that the teacher deliberately changed correct answers to incorrect ones on students’ exam papers, resulting in unusually low scores.
According to parents, the alleged tampering involved adding extra strokes to letters or inserting words into answers to make originally correct responses appear wrong.
Initial verification by authorities found signs of suspected alterations in nearly 20 exam papers belonging to students in classes 3C and 4B.
The school then established an internal inspection team to verify the allegations.
The ward administration also assigned its culture and social affairs division to conduct an independent review.
As part of the investigation, the ward administration required the school to suspend the teacher from classroom duties for 15 days.
After the review is completed, the results will be submitted to the school for handling in accordance with regulations if any violations are confirmed.
According to the ward leader, during a working session with the school, the teacher told administrators that many students in her classes had achieved high test scores.
She reportedly said she feared the students might become complacent and therefore intervened in the grading process.
The ward leader emphasized that the rights of affected students are fully protected throughout the process.
The school principal, Mac Hoang To Quyen, declined to comment when contacted by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper, citing that she was busy.
